Dear Weld Re-8 community,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to share some important updates regarding both leadership and structural changes within our district. These decisions have not been made lightly and come in response to several challenging financial realities we are currently facing.
As many of you are aware, the recent mill levy override proposal—intended to support the retention of staff—was not approved by voters. This, coupled with a decrease in student enrollment, has significantly impacted our budget. Additionally, the expiration of temporary federal funds provided through the ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) program has created further pressure on our finances.
In light of these factors, the district is taking steps to reduce the overall budget deficit. One of those steps includes a reorganization of our building-level administrative teams. These adjustments are designed to ensure we maintain our commitment to students and staff, while being responsible stewards of our financial resources. We recognize that change can be difficult, and we are working to support all affected individuals during this transition.
Additionally, I want to share that Mr. Muniz, our Director of Exceptional Student Services, has submitted his resignation, effective immediately. We thank Mr. Muniz for his service, leadership, and dedication to our students and staff. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
To ensure continuity of support for our ESS programs, the district has hired Erin Peak as the ESS Coordinator. Erin will oversee the department and manage daily operations until a permanent replacement for Mr. Muniz is hired. We are confident in her ability to provide steady guidance and leadership during this time of transition.
Looking ahead, the new superintendent—once selected by the Board of Education—will play an integral role in decision-making related to all districtwide positions. In the interim, the current executive district administrative team will lead the recruitment efforts for vacant building administrator positions. This process will be carried out in close collaboration with building leadership to ensure thoughtful and effective placements.
We remain committed to transparency and collaboration as we move forward. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate these changes together. Our shared commitment to students and their success remains at the heart of all we do.
With appreciation,
Respectfully,
Alan Kaylor, Superintendent
