Superintendent

Weld Re-8 Community,

As we near the end of the school year, I want say thank you for your continued trust in our people that strive to provide your student with a safe and secure environment while challenging each to achieve their individual educational goals.

With the end of Spring break, it signals our assessment season in grades 3-12.  Many of your students will be part of the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) in grades 3-8.  I am often asked why should a student participate in this assessment.  My answer is participation in CMAS is important because the results help students, parents, schools and districts understand whether students have mastered the content they need to know by the end of the school year.  As I have held the “mirror” to my face over the past year of my life, I am more convinced than ever that our students in Weld Re-8 are more than capable of achieving equal with any student in the world.  We are blessed to have diversity in our schools which leads to rich conversations and interactions.  I continue to challenge our team of employees to meet each student where they are and “grow” them to be their individual best.  I also am quick to remind the staff that we are one of the “three legs” on the educational stool.  Students, teachers and parents make up the key components of educating a person.

Our high school students are part of the PSAT and the SAT as well as Advanced Placement exams.  We have prom and graduation is Saturday, May 25, 2024.  It will be a busy end of year with many celebrations at every school.

In the way of an update to our calendar for this school year, we have added April 29, 2024 as a student attendance day.  It was originally a teacher only professional development day.  We are adding it as a school day for students due to the need for an additional attendance day for inclement weather issues.  The Colorado Department of Education requires a certain number of instructional hours and after review this fall, we only have one day of “cushion” at the high school level.

I am blessed and honored to serve as Superintendent of Weld Re-8 Schools.  Please contact me with any questions you may have.

Alan
