Job of the Board of Education
Job of the Board
The Board’s job is to represent and lead the District and to assure appropriate District performance by producing certain results.
To distinguish the Board’s own unique job from the jobs of the Superintendent and staff, the Board will concentrate its efforts on the following:
1. Engaging available avenues, including the District accountability committee, to ensure input from students, staff, parents and the community as a means to link to the entire community.
2. Developing written governing policies that address the broadest levels of District decisions and situations, including.
c. Ends: Organizational products, impacts, benefits, outcomes, recipients, and their relative worth (i.e. What end result is desired for whom and at what cost).
d. Executive Limitations: Constraints on executive authority that establish the prudent, ethical and legal boundaries within which all executive activities and decisions must take place (what may not happen or what is undesirable even if it accomplished Ends).
e. Governance Process: Specification of how the Board conceives, carries out and monitors its own work.
d. Board-Superintendent Relationship: How authority is delegated and its proper use monitored as well as the Superintendent’s role, authority, and accountability.
3. Assuring successful District and Superintendent performance on Ends and Executive Limitations.
a. Establish or change Superintendent compensation, benefits, or employment terms.
b. Decide any matter not specifically delegated to the Superintendent.
c. Monitor Superintendent performance against Ends and Executive Limitations policies and take any action related thereto.
4. Focusing on organizational performance through adherence to the mission of the district.
